Reclusive comic book artist Trip Spector spends his life doodling super-square, straitlaced superheroes, hiding from his fans, and crushing on his unattainable boss until he meets the dork of his dreams. Silas Goolsby is a rowdy FX makeup creator with a loveless love life and a secret streak of geek who yearns for unlikely rescues and a truly creative partnership.

Against their better judgment, they fall victim to chemistry, and what starts as infatuation quickly grows tender and terrifying. With Silas's help, Trip gambles his heart and his art on a rotten plan sketching out Scratch, a "very graphic novel" that will either make his name or wreck his career. But even a smash can't save their world if Trip retreats into his mild-mannered rut, leaving Silas to grapple with betrayal and emotions he can't escape.

What will it take for this dynamic duo to discover that heroes never play it safe?

Bad Idea (Audible Audio Edition) Damon Suede Charlie David Dreamspinner Press Books

Hm. So. For this one I have to do star math. Not sure where we're gonna land.

Plot: 3.5 stars, because more than half the plot is unusual and good and gorgeous, but parts were teeth-grindingly annoying and this is how I protest. Maybe there are people who learn a thing and instantly discard it to wallow and whine. Maybe two of them are in a relationship, the fools. These two do this thing more than once, and that's too many for me. Too plot-device-y.

The characters: See, because of the plot, this is tough. But Silas is my favorite, so he gets 5 stars even so. Trip? I want to make him equal, but he is more of a putz. Way more. I don't care about reasons, he slacked big-time on the learning curve. 3 stars. So, mushed together and divided out, that's 4.

The...tidbits. Messages, funny lines, the kid, the wisdom and the joy and the kindness, the loving couple and sharp friend and the man who loves him, all the bits and pieces that sent me up out of the book with a smile or a tear or a sigh, 10 stars. I don't care if that's too many. Ultimately, it's what I come out absolutely adoring about this story.

3.5 + 4 + 10 = 17.5. Divided by 3 is more than 5. But now you know why, even though it annoyed me, it earned highest marks.

Bad Idea (Audible Audio Edition) Damon Suede Charlie David Dreamspinner Press Books Reviews

With my favorite authors (pretty much Damon Suede and JR Ward), I buy their books as soon as they're released, and then force myself to read other titles to resist reading them, because I know I’ll be clamoring for the next release as soon as get to the final page.

I ADORED Bad Idea. I loved Hot Head (a MUST READ) so much - I’ve read it at least 10 times - that I held my breath hoping this book would be as good… and it absolutely is! Trip and Silas are wonderful characters. The plot moves, and the whole thing easily gets under your skin - or it least it did for me.

Damon is an amazing writer! And he clearly has a good editor. This is a first class book. Love it!!
oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. Amazing. I finished it & scrolled back to the beginning and read the whole book over again. Absolutely fantastic. Silas is beyond the most fabulous character I've ever read. The book is told from both points of view but you really get to know Trip better than Silas & it just left me wanting more (MORE)! Wow, I'm blown away. Super love scenes as only Damon Suede can deliver - but that totally wasn't the point of the story, just added to it at the perfect times & in the most perfect way. The way Trip's relationships with his friends was woven into the story line & the way the whole thing evolved just left me feeling like I knew these two (and I really do wish I knew these two) sweet, sexy, vulnerable, wonderful guys. Very cleverly written too, smart author.
This is the second novel I have read by Damon Suede, and I really enjoyed it! But be prepared, the two main characters will have your emotions going up, down, sideways and loop the loop. Trip Spector and Silas Goolsby are the main characters in this tale, and are as opposite as humanly possible. Trip is unsure of himself, questions any good fortune or happiness, and frequently sabotages his own success. On the other hand, Silas is outgoing, sexy, attractive with a wake of ex-lovers that stretches as far as the horizon. The planets must have aligned because they met at the most unlikely place, a mud run. However, once their eyes meet it is over for both of them, Cupid worked overtime. They do have in common that they are both very talented. It is their passion and talent (and sex) that brings them together, but it a tough road. Also, a great cast of supporting characters enrich the story.

I want to compliment Mr. Suede on his attention to detail of the entertainment industry, particularly comic books, movies and gaming. It added an authenticity to the story. It was so thorough I thought this might be somewhat autobiographic about himself. Anyway, excellent read and I highly recommend it.
Bad Idea is one of the best books I've read in a while -- not just the best M2M romance book I've read (which it is), but one of the best books period. The characters are all fully developed -- even the incidental ones. That doesn't happen in a lot of M2M stories. By the time you finish reading the book you feel like you've made a dozen new friends and met a person or two you really don't care for. The story centers around two guys who are reluctant to enter into any sort of relationship and lets the reader eavesdrop on the trials and tribulations of their developing affair. There are humorous moments, touching moments, angry moments and, of course, some very deliciously sensual moments. The sensual moments are exquisite in their detail. The reader feels almost like a voyeur -- an intruder on the most intimate of moments between two men. As great as the sexual encounters are, though, they are not what makes the book. Even without the sex, this book would be a great read. It is emotionally honest and well written with a tight plot that moves easily from one chapter in the book to the next. If there is a romantic spot anywhere in your body, this book will find it and make it sing. If I had any complaint about this book, it would be that it is too short -- even at some 430 pages. I did not want it to end. I am eagerly awaiting Book 2.
This book was my first by Damon Suede but surely not my last. Everything I could want in a story it had. It was sexy, emotional, smart, sensitive, funny. I thought the challenges both men faced were realistic and true to their characters. They may be my favorite romance couple to date and their relationship was just adorkable ) Trip's fear of sharing his art is also a rather deep topic and there was a lot of wisdom in this novel transcending its genre. Although I loved both characters and certainly understand Trip, I also wanted to smack him a few times, which just goes to show how well written he is! Silas has my heart though, what a sweetheart. In the end they are a great couple despite the fact that I wanted Trip to grovel a lot more, but perhaps that's the Scorpio in me.
